With over twenty years of experience in midwifery, Maha strongly believes in the critical role midwives play in emergency settings—especially during times of conflict.
“Having trained midwives can make a significant difference in the lives of mothers and their babies, particularly during crises when access to health services is limited,” she says.
Throughout her work, Maha has also come to recognize the importance of psychological support for pregnant women and new mothers. She explains that providing emotional care can greatly improve the chances of a safe delivery, helping to ease the physical and emotional burdens of pregnancy and childbirth while reducing stress on women.
However, the challenges are significant. Maha points to the shortage of essential medicines and medical equipment as one of the main obstacles affecting the quality of care provided to women. She also highlights difficulties in communication with some beneficiaries—particularly those displaced from other areas—due to differences in language and cultural backgrounds.
Despite these challenges, Maha emphasizes the importance of continuous training and education for midwives to keep pace with developments in the field.
Reflecting on her journey, she says her motivation has always been clear: “My passion is helping women and children and providing them with the best possible care. Seeing a healthy baby born gives me the strength to keep going, no matter the challenges.
