Since early 2026, Syria has faced compounding humanitarian crises, including renewed hostilities in Aleppo and the north-east, severe flooding along the Euphrates, and a significant influx of over 460,000 people from Lebanon. This turmoil has severely strained public services, leaving 1.2 million people — including 295,000 women of reproductive age — in urgent need of assistance. Vulnerable women and girls are particularly at risk, facing heightened threats of gender-based violence (GBV) and limited access to essential sexual and reproductive health (SRH) services due to disrupted infrastructure and overcrowded living conditions in temporary shelters.

UNFPA has scaled up life-saving SRH and GBV services for affected women, girls, and youth through static service delivery points and integrated mobile teams, reaching over 43,500 people with SRH services and more than 46,600 people with GBV services since January 2026.

UNFPA's Flash Appeal for Aleppo and North-East Syria was increased to US $7.5 million to address escalating humanitarian needs. As of June 2026, only 36% of this target has been secured, leaving a critical funding gap that hinders the sustainability and scale-up of life-saving SRH and GBV services. This appeal complements the broader 2026 Syria Response Plan for US $50 million.
